Northern Harriers of Nantucket

This spectacular photo by our good friend Burton Balkind showcases the Northern Harrier flying over the haulover in Coatue.

Northern Harriers, which are raptors, primarily eat the white-footed mouse. Although the Northern Harrier is on the threatened species list, they thrive on Nantucket with our abundant mouse population and extensive grassland.
